| There is plenty for visitors to enjoy at the Park with fifteen daily animal feeds, one feed approximately every 40 minutes whilst the Park is open! Orana Wildlife Park specialises in getting visitors “up close and personal with the animals”. Some encounters are not offered anywhere else in the world! Hand feed a Giraffe! Meet White Rhinoceros in a face–to–face encounter! Watch a Cheetah sprint! Pat a Llama! Thrill seekers can participate in a wonderful experience, unique to the Park – ride on board our specially designed feeding wagon which travels with the Animal Keepers through the African Lion Reserve for close up views of these magnificent creatures feeding – a truly memorable experience! The Lion Encounter Ride operates at 2.30pm on weekends, New Zealand public and school holidays. Tickets are limited to 20 people each day the ride operates. People must be over 1.4 metres in height. Set on 80 hectares of park–like grounds, Orana has been developed as an open range sanctuary for endangered animals, providing them with enclosures as close to their natural habitat as possible. Streams, moats and banks are used as barriers to allow visitors the opportunity to see the animals in a natural manner. Observe Spider Monkeys and Lemurs on their island homes. See highly endangered African Wild Dogs on their hill. Enjoy the antics of Meerkats, Porcupines and Otters at the Kopje Rock. See massive Rainbow Trout in our crystal clear waterways. Observe rare Oryx, Antelope and much more! An extensive collection of New Zealand native species is of particular appeal for visitors. Observe New Zealand Kiwi, Tuatara and a range of endangered, endemic birds such as Kea, the only alpine parrot in the world. Stroll through the walk–through aviary whilst native birds fly past and listen to their calls. A farmyard area enables visitors to pet a range of domestic animals. Visitors can walk through the Park and/or ride on the complimentary Safari Shuttle, driven by a wildlife expert who provides a commentary. Alternatively, visitors may wish to participate in daily, guided, walkabout tours. Orana Wildlife Park is internationally recognised for its involvement in captive breeding programmes for endangered exotic animals as well as breeding programmes and research relating to New Zealand’s own rare fauna. Wildlife guides inform visitors about the Park’s role in captive breeding programmes. The Park is open from 10.00am until 5.00pm daily. Last entrance is 4.30pm. We are closed Christmas Day.
